TA 20 - Theatre Appreciation: Classical Overview

Examines theatre history, the role of the actor and director, and exemplary plays from the ancient Greek through the 19th century. Attendance at scheduled field trips to theatrical performances may be required.

Introduces students to elements of the production process including playwriting, acting, directing, design, and criticism. Surveys different periods, styles and genres of theater through play reading, discussion, films and viewing and critiquing live theater, including required attendance of theater productions.

TA 25H - Great Plays-Primitive to Renaissance Honors
Units: 3
Traces the development of the play script in themes, characterization, and dramatic structure from the primitive ritual through the 17th century. Student writing assignments are more rigorous than in the non-honors course. Topics may include acting, Shakespeare or stagecraft. Field trips may be required. Credit in either TA 25 or 25H, but not both.
